Man gets 7 years RI for killing father

Bhadrak: The District and Sessions’ Judge Court here sentenced Monday a man to rigorous imprisonment for seven years for killing his father. The court convicted Jiten Kabi and held him guilty of murdering Brundaban Kabi of Hansapur Dhusuri village under Dhamnagar block in this district. Jiten was convicted under section 304(A) of the IPC.

As per information available from the police, Brundaban had already divided his property equally among his two sons Jiten and Dhiren. Trouble started when Dhiren started constructing a house on the land given to him. Jiten physically assaulted Dhiren’s wife Kalabati when she was overseeing the construction work, May 22, 2019. When Brundaban tried to save his daughter-in-law, Jiten, the eldest of the two brothers, attacked him brutally with a crowbar. Brundaban suffered serious injuries in the attack and was rushed to a hospital by others.

However, he succumbed to his injuries. Based on a written complaint made by the mother of the accused, Pramila, Dhusuri police lodged a case under section 307 of IPC. Jiten was arrested and forwarded to court. He has been lodged in prison since 2019. During the hearing of the case Monday, the court came to the conclusion that the accused did not have any intention to kill his dad. Hence it convicted Jiten under section 304(A) of IPC, which deals with causing death by negligence or rash acts that do not amount to culpable homicide.
