Bhadrak: Bhadrak district court’s additional district judge Ashish Kumar Tripathy convicted Tuesday, Arun Maharana of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict. If he fails to pay the fine, Arun has to undergo an additional six months in prison, the order said.
According to the case diary, Ajay, son of Arjun Parida of Mirzapur village, was going to Dhamnagar on a bike May 26, 2018, while accused Arun was driving his autorickshaw from the opposite direction. He intentionally crashed his three-wheeler into Ajay’s bike. As Ajay fell down, Arun stabbed him repeatedly with a knife. A profusely bleeding Ajay died on the spot. Rabindra Jena and Biswambara Sarangi witnessed the entire incident. They informed Ajay’s father who reached the spot and took Ajay to Dhamnagar Hospital where doctors referred him to Cuttack.
During the journey, Ajay narrated the entire incident to his dad. He died while undergoing treatment. The deceased’s father then lodged a complaint against Arun at Dhamnagar police station. Police arrested Arun after registering a case (No-88/218), and informed additional public prosecutors Surjyakanta Kuanr and Arun Kumar Mishra.
