Man hacked to death at CRPF Square in Bhubaneswar in broad daylight

Bhubaneswar: A man was hacked to death Saturday in broad daylight at CRPF Square under Nayapalli police limits in Bhubaneswar. Police have detained two persons in this connection.

The deceased has been identified as Tukuna Das alias Jatia, a resident of Janata Nagar in Salia Sahi. The detained persons have been identified as Sagar Prusty and his younger brother Sudhir Prusty, also residents of the same locality.

According to a source, Tukuna was in a relationship with Sagar and Sudhir’s sister. He had some videos of their intimate moments. After her marriage somewhere else, Tukuna allegedly showed the videos to his friends in the locality. Over this, Sagar and Sudhir had confronted Tukuna on several occasions. The two brothers made a plan to eliminate Tukuna. As per their planning, they took Tukuna in Sagar’s pick-up truck Saturday morning and drove towards CRPF square.

The brothers attacked Tukuna with sharp weapons in the vehicle. Near CRPF square, people heard Tukuna crying for help. They stopped the vehicle, rescued Tukuna and rushed him to Capital Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Back at CRPF square, irate people caught Sagar and Sudhir and roughed them up.

The police reached the spot in a PCR vehicle after being informed. They faced the ire of the angry people while trying to take the accused brothers into their custody. Angry mob vandalised the police vehicle and had a scuffle with the cops, it was learnt.

However, the police managed to leave the spot with the accused duo. They first took them to Capital Hospital for treatment and then to the police station for questioning.
