Bargarh: In a shocking incident, a cluster resource coordinator (CRC) was hacked to death by a miscreant over unknown reasons while his daughter was left grievously injured in the attack in the wee hours of Saturday here.
The accused was identified as Nagen Das of Nuapali village in this district.
The deceased was identified as Sadhucharan Pradahn (50) and his injured daughter was Sweta Pradhan (15). Sweta was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to the Bhukta community health center (CHC).
After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to Burla-based VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) for further treatment as her condition worsened.
Sources said, Sadhu was a native of Soranda village under Atabira block in Bargarh district. He started his career as a teacher in Badadhara village under this block and was later transferred to Ambabhona where he got promotion as a CRC.
His wife had passed away in a road accident, a few years back, so Sadhu resided with his younger daughter while his elder daughter is studying at a Bhubaneswar based institution.
Over reasons best known to him, Nagen made his entry into the house through the house roof and axed Sadhu in his sleep, causing his death. Sweta, who was sleeping beside her father, also received hack injuries near her ear and fell unconscious.
After committing the crime, Nagen went to the police station with the axe used in the crime and surrendered the same night. Soon, police rushed to Sadhu’s house and rescued Sweta in a critical condition and rushed her to the hospital.
While no exact reason of the attack was known, Nagen confessed of ‘mistakenly’ hacking the man to death while his intention was to kill someone else. Instead of straying to the house of the person he wanted to kill, Nagen mistakenly went to Sadhu’s house and hacked him, he confessed before the police.
While the incident has become the talk of the town, Bargarh SDPO Suresh Kumar Nayak reached the spot and started investigation. The body was seized and sent for post-mortem. A case was registered and a further probe was on.
