Chhendipada: In a shocking incident, a man hacked his father to death with an axe at Durgapur Kuda Sahi under Jarapada police limits in Angul district Monday.
The man did not even spare his mother and injured her seriously.
The deceased has been identified as Batakrushna Behera and his injured wife as Rukmani Behera. The accused son, identified as Natha Behera, is absconding.
According to the police, Natha worked as a driver and was living away from the village. He had returned home Sunday night.
Over some family issues, Natha and his father Batakrushna had a quarrel Monday morning. The scene turned uglier when Natha lost his cool and started attacking his father with an axe. His mother became an unwanted victim. While trying to rescue her husband, she too received injuries.
Realizing that he had killed his father, Natha immediately fled from the spot. Hearing Rukmani’s cries, neighbours rushed to her and sent her to Angul district headquarters hospital (DHH) in a 108 ambulance.
On being informed, a team from Jarapada police station reached the spot and recovered the body for post mortem. Registering a case, they have launched an investigation and a manhunt for the absconding son.
