Sundargarh: A youth was hacked to death by his uncle at Hatibahal village of Kurda panchayat near Lahunipara in Sundargarh district Thursday evening.
While the deceased was identified as Siba Kisan (28), the accused is Mahuri Kisan.
According to reports, Siba and Mahuri had a verbal spat over some petty issue and they had approached the gram sabha to settle it.
The gram sabha heard the case and slapped a fine on Mahuri. Enraged over the verdict, Mahuri questioned the gram sabha. He asked the gram sabha why a fine was not imposed despite Siba’s sister having an inter-caste marriage.
Following Mahuri’s question both he and Siba’s brother had a heated exchange.
When Siba was trying to pacify his brother, Mahuri attacked the former’s brother with a sharp weapon but ended up killing Siba.
Siba, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to Bonai hospital, where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
The villagers attacked Mahuri with sharp objects and he sustained grievous injuries on his head, shoulder and leg. His condition is stated to be critical.
The Lahunipara police have registered a case and started an investigation.
