Bhawanipatna/Narla: Police Saturday arrested a married man on the charges of impregnating a Class VIII girl of Narla-based Navodaya Vidyalaya here in Kalahandi district.
Based on a complaint by the victim’s mother, police registered a case and arrested the accused. However, no details of the accused were revealed to the media.
During the probe, it was learnt that the girl was from Bihar and was studying in the local Navodaya Vidyalaya. On being informed, the girl’s family members took the victim back to their state, sources said.
Neither the school authorities nor the district administration is coming forward with any answer regarding the incident. When asked, Narla IIC said he was aware of the incident. He even said that he had sent an officer to the hospital to check with the hospital authority about the incident.
“Our investigation reveals that the girl is a resident of Bihar. She was pursuing her studies staying at the school’s hostel. She fell sick January 14 after bleeding. She was rushed to Bhawanipatna district headquarters hospital where she tested positive for pregnancy,” he added.
She had to be shifted to Burla-based VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) after her condition deteriorated. From there her family members took her to Bihar.
On the basis of the information shared by the hospital authorities, the district administration has ordered an investigation. And noting the seriousness of the case, Narla police have launched an investigation. While the police investigation is yet to identify who the culprit is, involvement of a staff of the Navodaya Vidyalaya is gaining ground.
However, the school is recently under lock and key. Entry is also restricted. Our correspondent’s attempts to contact B Sitalaxmi, in-charge superintendent of the institution, over her mobile phone to get her opinion in this matter failed as her mobile phone was switched off.
