Khaprakhol: Acting on a tip-off, Khaprakhol police in Bolangir district seized fake currency notes Monday worth Rs 7,000 from a person and arrested him.
The accused was identified as Brahma Meher, 32, of Pipalbahal village under Lathore police limits in the district. The breakthrough came when Meher tried to purchase provisions from two stores by paying fake currency notes at Kapsipali and Khaprakhol markets The store owners alerted the police who arrived and arrested him.
Police seized eight notes of Rs 500 denominations, seven of Rs 200 denominations and 11 of Rs 100 denominations. Later, police raided the house of the accused and seized a fake note of Rs 500. They also recovered Rs 31,300 in cash comprising real currency.
A case was registered in this connection and the accused was produced in the court. There the magistrate rejected the bail plea of Meher and remanded him to Patnagarh sub-jail custody, SI Gopinath Mahakur said. Further investigations are on to trace from where Meher got the fake notes, Patnagarh SDPO Jyotirmaya Bhukta said.
