One injured in elephant attack

Chhendipada: A man sustained grievous injuries after an elephant attacked him at Brahmanabil village under Chhendipada forest range of Angul district Sunday morning.

The victim has been identified as Pandav Sahu (48) – a resident of Behera slum in Brahmanabil village.

According to villagers, the incident took place after one of the elephants got separated from the herd. It was spotted in a nearby mango orchard following which the villagers made an attempt to drive it away.

On being informed, the forest officials reached the spot and asked the villagers to disperse. That said, no one cared and instead kept on bugging the pachyderm.

Cornered by the villagers, the angry elephant picked Pandav up on its trunk and tossed him to the ground. He sustained grievous injuries in his face and chest following the attack.

Pandav was rescued and immediately rushed to Kosala primary healthcare centre (PHC) with the help of forest official Durga Charan Sahu. Later, he was shifted to Angul district headquarters hospital after his health condition deteriorated.
