Malkangiri, Jan 7: Motu police Wednesday claimed to have resolved two murder cases and arrested four persons in this connection. The arrested were identified as Kartami Irma, Rai Muta, Sita Rai and Mediami Gonga.
Addressing the media at district police headquarters, sub-divisional police officer M Sandip Sampad said these persons were involved in two murders that took place in July and December under Motu police limits. He stated that the body of a man was recovered from a forest near MPV-83 village Dec 24. Initially, they suspected that the Maoists might be involved in the incident. Police had registered a case in this regard and started investigation into the matter. Police were later able to ascertain the identity of the deceased. The body was identified as that of Pandu Dula of Manybkonda.
Initially, police did not get any clue about the murder. But, a complaint was lodged with them December 31 alleging that some miscreants had looted the camera, mobile phone, mobile charger and several other items from a photocopy shop in the same village December 24. As both the loot and the murder occurred in the same village December 24, police suspected that there might be a link between these two incidents. Police started the probe hoping that it may help them nab the accused involved in the murder of Pandu.
Tuesday, police arrested four persons in this connection. They confessed that they were involved in the loot. They further told the police that they had also killed Pandu. During their interrogation, they confessed that they had attempted to molest two young girls near MPV-83 village December 24.
But, Pandu reached there and resisted their molestation bid. Due to this, they assaulted him and later took him to a lonely place. They killed him and then dumped his body inside the forest. They also tried to make it look like a Maoist violence.
The SDPO added that two of these persons were also involved in the murder of Nagen Baidya in MPV-83 village July 25. The accused told the police that a person named Sujit Dhali had hired them by paying Rs 9,000 to kill Nagen. The SDPO further added that one more person involved in these cases is at large.
