Rayagada: Police Friday exhumed the body of a 55-year-old man from a burial ground after he was killed allegedly by two youths of the same village over suspicion he practised sorcery against their wives. The report came from Panashapadara village near Tikiri in Rayagada district.
The deceased was Bharat Kumbhar. The accused was Mangulu Kumbhar and Attara Kumbhar. The incident took place June 13 but became public after the wife of the deceased filed an FIR at Tikiri police station.
According to reports, wives of two youths — Mangulu Kumbhar and Attara Kumbhar of the same village — used to fall sick repeatedly. The two suspected Bharat was practising sorcery with adverse impact on their wives’ ill-health. In an act of revenge, the two allegedly stoned Bharat to death.
Then, they dragged the body to an isolated place on the outskirts of the village and buried it, the family alleged.
Police along with a scientific team reached the village and recovered the body. Registering a case of murder, they arrested Mangulu and Attara and forwarded them to court.
