Bhubaneswar: A person was killed and his wife was seriously injured after they were attacked brutally by some neighbours at Jharanasahi under Mancheswar police limits late Wednesday night. The condition of the woman is stated to be critical and she is fighting for life in a hospital. The deceased has been identified as Chhotulal Besra.
Chhotulal with his wife and son was living in Jharanasahi. Like every other night, the three had their dinner and went to sleep Wednesday. Late in the night, Chhotulal’s neighbours identified as Chandi Nayak, Sukant Das, Sunita Nayak, Raju Nayak, Malati Das, Anita Das, Pradeep Singh along with others barged into Chhotulal’s house and attacked the three.
As per the FIR lodged by the deceased’s son Tabisha Besra, Sukant attacked Chhotulal and his wife with a sharp weapon (knife) while Raju and Chandi attacked them with sticks and broken bottles. Chhotulal died on the spot while his wife was grievously injured. Hearing the commotion some others rushed to the spot, rescued her and took her to the hospital.
On being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the body of Chhotulal. On the basis of Tabisha’s FIR, the police have detained one person.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the family had borrowed some money from their neighbours. However, they had not returned the amount. So the irate neighbours attacked the family.
A detail investigation is underway. Police are also waiting for Chhotulal’s wife to regain consciousness so they can record her statement also.
