Man kills meter reader over high electricity bill in Odisha’s Ganjam district

Ganjam: An electricity meter reader was killed as an irate consumer allegedly attacked him over high electricity bill at Kupati village in Odisha’s Ganjam district, a source said Monday.

The deceased was identified as Laxminarayan Tripathy. However, the identity of the accused has not been ascertained yet.

The source informed that there was a dispute in the past between Tripathy and the accused over the electricity bill. Based on the dispute, a heated argument broke out between them Monday.

Amid the altercation, the consumer attacked the meter reader with a sharp weapon which subsequently led to the latter’s death, the source added.

Following the crime, the accused fled the scene.

On being informed, local police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter.

A manhunt is on to nab the absconding accused.
