Ranpur police arrested accused Lakshmidhar Pradhan and seized the weapon used in the crime. Police registered cases against Lakshmidhar and his son Kailash over a complaint filed by the victim’s father Chandra Sekhar Pradhan. Tension was palpable in the locality with policemen keeping a close watch on the unfolding situation.Police said Lakhsmidhar and his younger brother Chandra Sekhar had a long-standing dispute over sharing of ancestral property.
The incident occurred when village elders on the invitation of the siblings had assembled in their house at Samuka Sahi to make an amicable division of their property.
However, the brothers differed on division of an inch of land. This resulted in a fight between the two families when Manoranjan and Tiki caught hold of Kailash and assaulted him. Enraged on seeing his son being beaten up, Lakshmidhar picked up a billhook and hacked Manoranjan with it. In the melee, Tiki and Kailash were rendered critical.
