Berhampur: Berhampur Sadar police Saturday arrested a man identified as Dhiren Kumar Parida of Deulipedi village under Patapur police limits and forwarded him to court for his wife’s murder over dowry.

As per information received, Dhiren had married Dibyadipti (21), daughter of Umashankar Rout of Pandiajholi village in the area February 18 in 2022.

As Dhiren was working in a private company in Mumbai, he took his wife with him to Mumbai after marriage. But due to some misunderstanding between the couple, Dibyadipti returned to her village and was staying with her mother. Her mother Pratima Rout, who was working in a poultry farm situated at Ramachandrapur near Baunshiapalli, was residing in a quarter near the farm.

Pratima could not find her daughter night of May 25 around 11:30pm and started searching for her after alerting others. They discovered the body of Dibyajyoti lying under the terrace around midnight.

Police reached the spot after getting information and started an investigation. The post-mortem of the body was conducted Friday.

Pratima alleged before the police that Dibyajyoti had been tortured both physically and mentally by her husband and in-laws. In her FIR, Pratima alleged that Dhiren and his family members were responsible for her daughter’s death.

Police arrested Dhiren and forwarded him to the court Saturday and investigation was on regarding this matter.
