Man kills wife over mutton curry

Baripada: A man was arrested by police for allegedly bludgeoning his wife to death over an issue as petty as cooking at Sunagadia area under Baripada Town Police Station in Mayurbhanj district Wednesday night.

While the deceased has been identified as Sangita Baitha, the accused was identified as Shaktipada Baitha, husband of the deceased.

According to reports, Shaktipada who worked as a sweeper at a hospital was living with his wife and three children at Kirtan Padia area of Sunagadia. Before going to work, Shaktipada brought fish and mutton from market and handed it over to Sangita Wednesday evening. When he returned home after finishing his duty, he found that Sangita had not prepared fish and mutton curry following which a verbal duel ensued between the two. The altercation took an ugly turn when Shaktipada in a fit of rage, picked up a stone and wooden plank and attacked Sangita.

Sangita who sustained critical injuries on her head died on the spot after bleeding profusely.

The children who witnessed the gruesome incident informed Sangita’s younger sister, Sasmita. Following which the Police was informed.

Police reached the spot, arrested the accused, and seized the body.

Basing on Sasmita’s written complaint, Police registered a murder case in this connection.

The death of Sangita and the arrest of Shaktipada, leaves their children completely helpless.
