Man loses palms in firecracker explosion

Deogarh: A 55-year-old man lost both his palms after a firecracker exploded in his hands while saving his grandson in Deogarh district.

The incident took place in Baishnabpalli village under town police limits in this district. The victim has been identified as Bhagaban Munda. Munda was rescued and was placed under treatment at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) where his condition remained critical.

According to sources, an unexploded cracker was lying along a road after the immersion ceremony of goddess Laxmi at Baishnavpalli village. Out of curiosity, Munda’s grandson Sunil (4) picked up the cracker and started playing with it.

Meanwhile, Munda saw smoke emanating from the cracker. Sensing danger, he tried to snatch the cracker from the hands of his grandson when it exploded in his hands, blowing off his palms.

He was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital. He was later shifted to the VIMSAR hospital after his condition worsened.
