Jhumpura: Despite a drop in rainfall over the past few days, many localities of this block in Keonjhar district were left in water-logging with many families going without food.
Residents of a couple of wards and other slums are facing trouble which is man-made, it was alleged. This is the result of an incomplete drainage system and rampant encroachments, said locals.
It is said that encroachments on natural water bodies, construction of boundary walls and houses on drains and obstruction on the flow of rain water have added to the problem.
Meanwhile, people of ward-8 and 10 have been stranded in water for the last five days.
While, there is no escape route for water in these two wards, water of under-construction drain along NH-20 is gushing into the wards, a report said.
More than 30 families of these wards are facing a nightmarish situation as they have not cooked food for the last couple of days. The children have been missing their classes also, said a resident.
Besides, the dirty water accumulating in wards has threatened to spread waterborne diseases in the locality.
Feigning ignorance, panchayat executive officer Rakhyakar Nayak said he is yet to receive a complaint on the issue.
Jhumpura BDO Jayshree Beura and NHAI officials T Durga Prasad couldn’t be contacted over the issue.
