Bijepur: In a bizarre development in Bargarh district Saturday late night, a man killed himself by consuming poison. In the same spree, he killed his wife and daughter in a fit of rage by giving them the same poison.

According to police sources, Ratha Mahananda entered into altercations with his wife Kumudini, just a day before the agrarian festival. Firstly, the husband suddenly got enraged and poisoned his wife Kumudini. As his daughter opposed this, Ratha forcibly gave poison to her as well. Losing mental balance thereafter, he killed self.

On being informed, relatives of the family rushed all of them to Bijepur community health centre (CHC), where doctor declared Kabita dead. Later, the couple was shifted to Bargarh district headquarters hospital (DHH), as his health condition deteriorated further.

However, the couple died Saturday late at night while under treatment. Acting on FIR lodged by Ratha’s brother Dillip Mahananda, local police filed a murder case (No.-174/20) and launched further investigation. The bodies were seized and sent for postmortem Sunday, Bijepur police station IIC Rajendra Sial informed.
