Man pushed into well by son for Rs 5, drowns

Berhampur: A man drowned after he was pushed into a well by his son after he refused to provide him Rs 5 to buy liquor at Sidhapur village near Badagarh in Ganjam district Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Abhi Das, father of the accused Babula Das.

According to reports, Abhi had a verbal duel with his son Babula after the latter asked Rs 5 to purchase liquor.

When the father refused money, Babula, who was in an inebriated condition, dragged Abhi to a well and pushed him into it.

Failing to come out of well, Abhi drowned, sources said.  After getting information, Badagarh Police reached the spot and arrested the son.

Later, the body was fished out with the help of fire officials in the night and was sent for post-mortem. The accused was produced in court and later remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea Tuesday morning, police said.
