Man rapes woman on pretext of job

Bhubaneswar: Airfield police here Friday arrested a 30- year-old man for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of providing her a job. Airfield police station IIC Sashikanta Rout said the accused was identified as Diptiranjan Palei, a native of Orada village in Khurda district. The accused, a food safety official of the government, came across the victim’s husband during an event in 2023, when the latter requested Palei to find a job for his wife.

Following this, the couple also paid Rs 6 lakh to Diptiranjan, Rout added. Following the payment, Diptiranjan asked the victim to come to a hotel for training purposes, said the IIC, adding that he then raped the woman and threatened to murder her, if she discloses the matter before others. The victim, however, lodged a complaint at Airfield police station seeking immediate action against Diptiranjan. The police booked Diptiranjan under Sections 376 (1), 417, 420 and 506 of IPC and produced him before a local court Friday
