Man rescued after falling into canal in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A man, who had been swept away after falling into Gangua canal, was rescued in a critical condition at Alasua near Infocity in Bhubaneswar Friday.

The 34-year-old Krushnachandra Mahali is undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.

According to reports, rain water was flowing above the Gangua canal bridge following heavy rain triggered by Titli cyclone since Friday morning.

Krushnachandra, who was going to Alasua from Daruthenga, accidentally fell into the canal while crossing the bridge.

Though some youths saw Krushnachandra falling into the canal, they couldn’t rescue him.

However, some villagers later rescued Krushnachandra, who caught hold of a tree branch some 200 metres away from the accident spot.

In a similar accident, a teacher died after being swept away by rain water flowing in a drain in Unit 6 area some months ago.
