Bheden: Police Saturday rescued a mentally-deranged man, who was missing for the last two years, from near a garbage dump at Pradhanpalli village under this police station in Bargarh district, and handed him over to his parents.
The man was identified as Suryakanta, 32, son of Hadibandhu Nayak of Lokipur in Gobindpur panchayat under Begunia police limits of Khurda district.
Police said Suryakanta had gone missing while herding sheep two years ago. His family could not find him despite intense search. A missing case was registered at the local police station.
However, Suryakanta had taken shelter near a garbage dump at Pradhanpalli alongside the Godabhaga-Sonepur State Highway-54. He had to spend days and nights under open sky, and depend on food provided by some compassionate people.
During night patrolling a few days ago, Rushuda outpost police stopped their vehicle after seeing Suryakanta. Outpost in-charge Pramod Sahu enquired about the residential details from him which the latter provided but could not speak anything about how he reached Pradhanpalli.
However, he expressed his willingness to go back to his native place in Khurda. Police then contacted his family through Begunia police following which his family received Suryakanta in the presence of villagers, police and local sarpanch.
