According to police sources, the girl’s father was identified as Arakhita Nag of Debripali village under Belapada police limits in Bolangir. The man has two wives and the victim is his first wife’s daughter.
The girl had been staying at her uncle’s house for several years owing to a family feud. However, a village meeting was called a few days ago where it was decided that she would now stay with her father. Accordingly, she was residing at Debripali village.
The minor girl’s father set her ablaze by pouring kerosene on her in the wee hours at around 3am. Nag was not interested to keep his daughter with him and attempted to kill her, the girl’s uncle alleged.
Acting on an FIR lodged by the uncle in this connection with Belapada police, the police have registered a case and launched a probe.
