Man shot at in Mayurbhanj village

Kaptipada (Mayurbhanj): A man sustained serious bullet injuries at he was shot at by unidentified miscreants while he was standing near his house at Baajunapal village under Kaptipada block in Mayurbhanj district late Monday night.

The victim has been identified as Patras Alia (30), son of Jatri Alia.

Alia was rescued and rushed to Udala community health centre (CHC). After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to Baripada-based PRM Medical College and Hospital for further treatment after his condition worsened.

Family members said, the incident occurred while Alia was standing near the house. All of a sudden, a bullet struck in one of his leg. Hearing his screams, family members inside the house, came running out and rescued him.

After getting information, Kaptipada IIC Reena Behera along with a police team rushed to the village and launched a probe. Meanwhile, Alia stated that he failed to identify the miscreant as it was dark.

On the other hand, rumours did round that Alia with a poacher had gone to a forest near the village late Monday night to poach wild boars. He was mistakenly shot at by a poacher in the forest while the latter was trying to target a wild boar.

Notably, the victim is also a poacher, some reports said.

“A case has been registered and a probe is on. A manhunt to nab the accused has been launched. The exact reason will be known after the accused is arrested,” the IIC said.
