Sambalpur: A 30-year-old man sustained injuries after being shot at on a busy thoroughfare at Budharaja daily market under Ainthapali police limits in Sambalpur, Monday morning.
Police have detained the accused Siria Jena (45) for interrogation.
The victim has been identified as Mantu Podha, a vegetable seller. He received a bullet injury on his left leg and has been admitted to the Sadar hospital.
Sources said the attack was the fallout of a past enmity as Mantu had slapped the accused for harassing a girl, a month ago.
Apparently seeking revenge, Jena arrived at the market on a motorcycle and shot at Mantu in full public view. However, the latter escaped narrowly with the bullet hitting a leg.
Angry locals overpowered Jena while he was trying to escape and thrashed him black and blue before handing him over to police.
A probe into the incident is on, police said.
