Jharsuguda: In a bizarre case of sexual assault, a man and his son were allegedly gangraping a minor girl for months after engaging her as a domestic help.
The family which resides in Talcher, had brought the girl from Jharsuguda around three to four months ago to work as the house maid. Since then, they were outraging her modesty on different occasions, it was learnt.
The shocking incident came to light after the minor survivor managed to escape from the clutches of the accused father-son duo and lodged a complaint with Jharsuguda Town police Monday.
According to the complaint of the victim, the accused duo had engaged her as a domestic help at their house in Talcher. A relative of the accused duo had taken her to work in their house on the pretext of wages.
However, they were allegedly raping the minor girl repeatedly for the past three months. They reportedly did not let her go out of the house and warned her of dire consequences if she ventures out.
While the girl’s ordeal continued for over three months, the victim somehow managed to flee the house and escaped to Bhubaneswar. She was spotted by some good Samaritans who helped her get back to her home in Jharsuguda.
Later, the girl mustered courage and narrated her ordeal to her family members who later approached the police for help. When the victim complained, she was assaulted. She had no access to phone to contact her family members.
Acting on a complaint from the victim, police registered a case and launched a probe. The father-son duo has been charged with cases of crime against children, rape and sexual assault and bonded labour.
The rape survivor was sent for a medical examination. “The girl is unable to identify her tormentors. We will first ascertain the identity of her employers and initiate action against them on the basis of evidence and statement of the victim,” a senior police official said.
