Man, son held for woman’s murder in Odisha’s Keonjhar district

Dhenkikote: A woman was allegedly beaten to death by her neighbours following a fight over the erection of a fence at Parabha Sahi, Khantaghar village under Dhenkikote police beat house limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Kuntala Nayak, 55, wife of Banshidhar Nayak in the village.

On being informed, police arrested a man and his son for the murder and launched a manhunt to nab the third accused. The accused were identified as Rabi Nayak and his son Mangulu Nayak in the village. Another of Rabi’s sons, Puria Nayak, who is also an accused in the case, is presently absconding.

The incident took place when Banshidhar was putting up a fence around his house at around 5pm, Friday. In the meantime, Rabi reached the spot and picked up a fight with the couple. His sons Mangulu and Puria also joined him and allegedly thrashed the couple. The panic-stricken couple fled from their house and took shelter in another person’s house in the village, leaving the door open. Later at night, the couple came to put a lock on the door when Rabi and his two sons allegedly hit Kuntala on the head with a stick. She died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

On being informed, Dhenkikote beat house police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. Ghatagaon SDPO Prabhat Tripathy also visited the crime scene. During investigation, police nabbed Mangulu from Dhenkikote market and his father from his residence.
