Man stabbed to death over extramarital affair

Kendrapara: A 34-year-old man was stabbed to death by his sister-in-law and the latter’s paramour as he opposed to their extramarital affair at Olavar under Rajkanika police station Friday, said Pattamundai sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Umashankar Moharana.

The deceased was identified as Binod Bai. According to police, Binod’s elder brother, Bijay Bai, has been working in a Maharashtra-based company.

Bijay’s wife Bijay Bandana Barik, who was at her in-laws’ house, allegedly developed an extramarital affair with Surajit Bai alias Babuli, a fellow villager.

An altercation erupted between Bijay Bandana and Binod over the issue. Things took an ugly turn and Bandana along with her paramour stabbed Binod with a knife on the village road.

Surajit fled the scene after the incident.  Binod was rushed to the Rajkanika community health centre (CHC) with critical injuries and was subsequently shifted to Aul CHC where he died.

Locals later nabbed Bijay Bandana and handed over to Rajkanika police Friday night. The victim’s mother lodged an FIR at Rajkanika police station. Rajkanika police rushed to Aul CHC and seized the body and sent it for autopsy, said the SDPO.

Police registered a case while efforts were on to arrest prime accused Surajit.
