Cuttack, Jan 27: Badambadi police Tuesday registered a case of murder against a man for strangulating his wife Monday night.
According to a complaint lodged by Pragyaparamita’s family, she was strangulated by her husband Debiprasad Monday night.
A team of Mahila and Badambadi police reached the Sriramnagar residence of the accused and began investigations, Mahila IIC Sujata Jena said.
Meanwhile, Debiprasad has surrendered to police after the incident, police added.
Badambadi IIC Biranchi Narayan Pati said statements of the accused and the victim’s family were recorded.
Police said Debiprasad married Pragya of Bhubaneswar May 12, 2013. However, Pragya was given a job in the water resources department under a rehabilitation scheme after her father’s death. Debiprasad was working as a manager in HDFC Bank and their relationship turned sour soon after marriage. Debiprasad hatched a plan to kill Pragya after their Delhi tour January 15. The quarrel between them took a drastic turn Monday when the accused, in a fit of rage, strangulated Pragya.
Assistant commissioner of police Sitaram Satpathy said the couple was childless, and that might have been one of the reasons behind the dispute.
