Sonepur: In a bone-chilling incident, a man, in a fit of rage, thrashed his wife to death over a family feud Saturday night at Ainlachat village under Ulunda police limits of Subarnapur district.

The accused man has been identified as Shankar Dehury, husband of the deceased Mamata Dehury, a resident of Ainlachat village. An altercation erupted between Shankar and Mamata over an issue late Saturday night, which has not been known yet.

Things took an ugly turn when Shankar got annoyed over the arguments and severely beat his wife. As a result, Mamata sustained grievous injuries and became unconscious. Neighbours rescued her in a critical condition and rushed her to a nearby government-run hospital.

However, doctors at the health facility declared her ‘brought dead’.

On learning about the incident, Mamata’s family members reached the hospital. Subsequently, they lodged an FIR with Ulunda police alleging that Mamata was severely beaten to death by her husband.

Acting on the FIR, police have registered a case in this connection and initiated a detailed probe into the incident, an official said.
