Rajnagar: Police arrested a man and his wife on the charge of killing their daughter-in-law for dowry following a complaint from the deceased’s brother here in Kendrapara.

Tanushree (25), wife of Ranjan Kumar Rout, from Bandhapada near Rajnagar was found dead in mysterious condition Thursday night.

Alekh Kumar Jena, brother of the deceased, registered a complaint Friday, alleging that his sister was murdered for dowry.

Following this, the police have arrested Tanushree’s father-in-law Ghanashyam Rout and his wife.

According to the complaint, Tanushree, daughter of Satrughna Jena of Brahmani Sahi, married Ranjan in 2015. Ranjan worked in a Delhi-based private firm. Satrughna had met all the marriage-related demands from Ranjan and his family. But after the marriage, Tanushree’s in-laws demanded more dowry. Besides she had been subjected to mental and physical torture.

Alekh alleged that after murdering his sister, her in-laws wanted to project it as a suicide.

Meanwhile, Ghanashyam said when they didn’t find Tanushree in her room Thursday evening, they searched for her in neighbours’ houses. After some time, she was found hanging from a tree in the backyard.

He said though they rushed her to the Rajnagar community health centre, doctors declared her brought dead.
