Managing panel’s go-ahead waited to issue Mahaprasad rate chart

The SJTA December 4 facilitated the special cooking of Mahaprasad at the temple kitchen to ascertain the cost of production of the delicacies including the remuneration of cooks

Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has fixed the prices of Mahaprasad and would issue a rate chart on the delicacies once the Srimandir managing committee approves it.

According to sources, the temple administration has fixed the prices of Mahaprasad by taking into account the cost of production of the delicacies including the remuneration of cooks. “A report containing the prices of Mahaprasad has been sent to the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee. The rate chart would be issued for the reference of devotees once the managing panel approves the price list,” said a source in the SJTA.

It is learnt that the SJTA would put the rate chart at Anand Bazar and some other strategic places on the shrine premises.

“Soon devotees can refer to the rate chart while purchasing Mahaprasad from Anand Bazar. Introduction of rate chart can check the alleged fleecing of devotees by the Mahaprasad sellers. Moreover, there would not be any bargaining or argument over the prices of temple delicacies,” said an official of the SJTA.

It is worth mentioning here that the SJTA had planned to fix the prices of Mahaprasad and regulate affairs at Anand Bazar as part of introducing reform measures at the 12th century shrine.

The SJTA facilitated the special cooking of Mahaprasad at the temple kitchen to ascertain the cost of production of the delicacies December 4. It had arranged rice, dal, vegetables and other ingredients for the purpose.

Officials of the SJTA and representatives of Suar and Mahasuar Niyog had inspected the whole process. “The Srimandir managing committee would deliberate on the proposed prices. The managing panel can bring certain changes to the price list,” said the SJTA official.
