Nayagarh: A man’s eye was gouged out by his brother-in-law for not being able to repay his loan on time. This shocking incident occurred at Sathiapalli village under Sadar police limits in Nayagarh district Thursday evening.
Sources said that Pramod Routray (50), a resident of Sajanapada village, is not financially sound. So he used to borrow money from his brother-in-law whenever there was an emergency. However, terms between the two soured as Pramod repeatedly failed to clear up the loans on time.
Pramod’s in-laws reside in Sathiapalli village. His brother-in-law called Pramod to his residence Thursday evening. The two had a heated argument and abused each other. The situation turned ugly when Pramod’s brother-in-law attacked him with a sharp weapon. He hit Pramod on the eye and gouged it out.
A profusely bleeding Pramod was rushed to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital (DHH). Later, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.
When contacted, Sadar police station inspector-in-charge Jaydeep Mohanty said they have registered a case in this regard and an investigation is underway.
