Maoist banners, posters found in Rayagada dist

Rayagada/Malkangiri: Posters and banners put up by the rebels were found amid the observation of the Martyrs’ Week in Rayagada district, Sunday. According to sources, the handwritten poster has been issued by the Bansadhara-Ghumusar-Nagabali division committee. The poster was found pasted near College Square in Padmapur block.

Through the poster, the ultras have warned a seven-member family and Padmapur tehsildar of stringent punishment in the Praja Court. On being informed, police reached the spot and seized the poster. Similarly, the Maoists held a huge public meeting in this district’s Swabhiman area under Chitrakonda police limits. The extremists gathered thousands of tribal residents and shouted slogans against the government.

At the meeting, the Maoists said the government has been looting the mines and minerals of the state on the pretext of development. Earlier, Maoist posters and banners displayed by the rebels were found on Khalipani Road in this block of Nabarangpur district Friday. The Maoists also blocked the road using a tree.

The Maoists urged local residents through posters to observe Republic Day as a black day. They also asked people to observe a protest week from January 25 to 31. The banners said the Reds have been fighting for the rights of tribals. The Centre has been torturing tribals, the Maoists claimed in their posters.

The Reds demanded safe drinking water, roads and electricity connections for tribals. They also threatened individuals who have been informing security forces about their moves, and to punish them in praja court. The Chandahandi police and BSF personnel seized the posters and banners of the Maoists.

Maoist posters were found hanging on a bridge near Sarakubandh in the Swabhiman area under Chitrakonda police limits Thursday. The Maoists urged the residents of Nagaland, Manipur, J&K and Assam not to discriminate against people on the basis of caste, creed and religion. The Reds also asked people to make their nationwide bandh January 31 successful.
