Bargarh: A Maoist camp was busted by security forces following a massive fire exchange between the police and the ultras during a combing operation near Manabhanga dam under Paikmal police limits in Bargarh district Tuesday.
Talking to reporters, Padampur SDPO Laxminarayan Panda Wednesday said that acting on the information about the presence of a group of armed Maoists along with some top cadres inside the forest, a joint team of the DVF and CRPF conducted a combing operation in the area Tuesday.
While the operation was underway, the Maoists spotted a group of 10-12 Maoists near the dam. Then the security forces picketed the rebels and asked them to surrender, the latter opened fire at the team.
During retaliation by the security forces, Maoist commander Ravindra and his associate suspectedly sustained injuries. The cross fire continued for sometime after which the ultras managed to escape.
“The security forces then busted a Maoist camp inside the forest and seized huge cache of arms and ammunition and several other articles,” the SDPO said adding that many top Maoist leaders were hiding in a nearby village.
As many as 16 bullets, a sharp knife, and several Maoist articles have been seized from the spot.
