Malkangiri: A Maoist couple surrendered before police in the neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh Wednesday.
The couple Rabindra alias Sana and wife Reena, who joined the group in 2008, laid down their arms before DM Awasthi, Special Director General (Anti-Naxal Operation), Chhattisgarh.
According to reports, both were carrying Rs 5 lakh cash reward each on their heads and were active under the Chintalnar-Jagargunda Area Committee.
They were involved in several high profile operations carried out by Red rebels including Sukma Collector Alex Paul Menon’s abduction in 2012 and armed ambush on Chhattisgarh STF the same year.
Notably, Maoists are observing Martyrs’ Week in the country from July 28 to August 3.
