Maoist posters trigger panic in Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna: Panic gripped people as Maoist posters appeared at Perumanji Square under T Rampur block in Kalahandi district Monday.

In these posters, the ultras have termed the cyclonic storm Fani as manmade and held the government responsible for the calamity.

Two posters addressed by CPI (Maoist), Baghuna division, and written in black and red ink were found pasted at Perumanji Square adjoining Karlapat Sanctuary on T Rampur and Bhawanipatna main road.

Through the posters, the left wing extremists demanded Rs 20 lakh compensation each for the families of those who died during the calamity and Rs 2.5 lakh as house building assistance for each affected family.

The posters were noticed by the locals who informed the police at Karlapat outpost. Police seized the posters and were verifying whether they had been actually released by the Maoists.

The ultras alleged in these posters that the cyclonic storm had inflicted unprecedented damage on the state. It occurred due to mindless extraction of mineral by multinational firms and loss of green cover in large tracts of land.

The poster further read, “The people have been pushed into the jaws of destruction on the pretext of development. The regular loot of minerals, destruction of green cover on the pretext of developing smart cities has resulted in the calamity. Moreover, the regular test of various war weapons under the sea has made the sea aggressive and more turbulent.”

“This has highly affected the climatic condition resulting in cyclonic storms and heatwave. More such cyclonic storms will take place in the state, affecting the lives and livelihood of people,” the posters warned.
