Maoist threat: 2 more families flee cut-off region

Malkangiri: Two more families of Jodamba panchayat, a cut-off region under Chitrakonda block in Malkangiri district, Friday fled their homes in the wake of threat by Maoists.

The families of Shankar Muduli and Seema Hantal have taken shelter at their kin’s house in Kudumulugumma and at a makeshift shelter centre at Didayee set up by the district administration, leaving behind their birthplace and all household items.

Last week, five families of Bhatra panchayat of Chitrakonda block had left their village after they were beaten up Maoists at a praja court and asked to leave their birthplace. The left wing extremists have been torturing innocent tribals, accusing them of being police informers.

So far, more than 100 families of the cut-off regions have left their villages due to the Maoist threat and are residing elsewhere, it was learnt.
