Malkangiri: As many as 30-40 armed Maoists blew up the Timurpalli panchayat office under Mathili police limits in this district late Friday night.
While the office building has been completely destroyed, important documents and furniture in the office have been reduced to ashes in the blast. There has been no casualty however.
According to a source, the Red rebels also sloganeered against the police and warned people against becoming police informants.
These apart, they also put up propaganda posters urging people to join their movement.
Border Security Force (BSF) along with local police have reached the spot as of Saturday morning. A combing operation has been started to nab the ultras involved in the attack.
It may be mentioned here that after a brief lull, Maoist menace is rising in the state – especially in interior and southern pockets of the state. Despite heavy security arrangements in view of the general elections, the rebels have managed to show their violent presence in many districts of the state including Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Malkangiri.
