Malkangiri: Protesting against Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious Polavaram Project, Maoists have appealed to the people to support a district-wide bandh here July 20.
Malkangiri-Koraput-Visakhapatnam Border (MKVB) divisional committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) also urged all the affected people to get united to launch a fight against the construction of the dam.
In a release, the secretary of MKVB divisional committee, Benu, observed that the project is opposed tooth and nail. “The Polavaram Dam Project will displace Dalits, tribals, poor and marginalised people of the region benefiting the ruling class, capitalists and elite people only. To oppose this project, we have called for Malkangiri Bandh July 20,” he said, adding they have urged the affected people to unite and make the bandh a success.
Several posters protesting Polavaram Project had been put up at different places of Chitrakonda block July 13.
