Maoists posters resurface in Chitrakonda

Malkangiri: After a few days of lull, Maoists posters resurfaced at different places in Chitrakonda block of this district Sunday.

Local people noticed the posters in Papluru and Kurmanur panchayats in the morning and they immediately informed the police.

The posters released in the name of outlawed CPI (Maoist) group protested against the ganja cultivation in the district. Accusing the Malkangiri Police of covertly patronising the hemp growers in the district, the rebels warned of dire consequences if they continue to do so.

“The police are encouraging hemp growers. While the local police are taking Rs 1 lakh inducement from the hemp growers, the cops at district levels take Rs 3 lakh. And in the case of excise department officials, the bribe amount goes up to Rs 5 lakh.  This practice should be stopped and paddy, finger millet and little millet growers should be encouraged instead,” read the posters.

Though the police have been informed, they are yet to reach the spot, sources said.
