Maoists torch JCB engaged in road construction

Malkangiri: A group of armed Maoists stormed into a road construction site along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border near Patraput area here in Malkangiri district and torched a JCB machine used for road construction work late Thursday night.

According to sources, around 20-25 rebels armed with weapons entered the construction camp located along Goiguda-Bhejiguda Road under Bonda ghat area and set the JCB machine on fire demanding to stop the construction work in the locality.

The Maoists also set on fire other road construction equipments before fleeing into the forest. The CPI (Maoist) group also sloganeered against the construction of the new road. The rebels warned the workers engaged at the site to stop the work.

However, police are yet to confirm the involvement of the Maoists in the incident and reach the incident spot since it is situated in the remotest area of the district. Notably, Maoists had earlier also opposed the road construction work in Bonda Ghati area for which they had circulated posters and leaflets recently.
