Digapahandi: A woman was alleged molested and later assaulted with an iron road in full public view in the village street at a village under Digapahandi police limits area in Ganjam district Saturday evening.
The matter came to the fore after the victim’s husband lodged a written complaint in this connection with Digapahandi police Sunday morning.
A police team led by IIC Debasish Mohanty registered a case and reached the village for a probe. The accused has been identified as Santosh Patra.
According to sources, Mohanty had allegedly passed lewd comments on a girl of the village. When the victim opposed his act, Mohanty manhandled her and attacked her with an iron rod.
Family members rescued her in a critical condition and rushed her to Digapahandi community health centre (CHC). After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to Berhampur-based MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
The incident spread tension in the village.
