Cuttack: Puja Yadav, who is out on a mission on her motorcycle to create awareness among the motorists on road safety besides the need to wear helmet, was felicitated after reaching the Silver City Thursday morning.
Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal as well as Forum for Prevention of Road Accidents (FPRA) felicitated Yadav at Madhupatna Traffic Headquarters here.
Yadav, a 28-year-old woman from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, started her journey from Noida November 20 and has covered seven states so far. “I’ve aimed to travel across the country and sensitise the people, especially women, about wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers and road safety,” Yadav said, adding that her campaign— Bike ride with helmet— has been endorsed by a 12-year-old outfit—Tracks.
She went on to say that often women, working class in particular, were caught riding two-wheelers sans helmets. And the traffic cops, in most cases, have to let go them out of compulsion.
Later in the afternoon, Yadav, accompanied by FPRA volunteers, met with Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda at his office and discussed ways to take the awareness campaign to a new height with support from the state government.
FPRA’s Bikash Mohapatra and several student-traffic volunteers were also present on the occasion.
