Bhubaneswar: City Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena Tuesday unveiled an eight feet high replica of Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup trophy amid much frenzy.
The giant trophy will be on display at the Unit-II Market Building from October 16 to November 28.
“I thank the BMC and the Market Building Association for organising this event and the Sports and Youth Services department for making this successful. I hope India wins the actual trophy and we are able to keep the original one with us for a longer time,” Jena said.
Further, six more trophy replicas have been put up across various centres in the city. The giant trophy will be shifted to the fan village set up inside the Kalinga Stadium once the games begin November 28.
The Odisha government is pulling out all the stops to promote the event and push Bhubaneswar as the ‘Sports Capital of India’. The state-of-the-art infrastructure facility is being developed at Kalinga Stadium for the international event, said sources.
