Mayurbhanj MP moves court against Dharmendra Pradhan over derogatory remarks

Baripada: Mayurbhanj MP Ramchandra Hansdah has filed a case against Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for allegedly making derogatory remarks against him during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting here, January 5.

In his petition filed at the District Court here Monday, Hansdah mentioned that Pradhan had said in the meeting that people of Mayurbhanj has elected an MP who has spent four years in jail during his five-year tenure. A case in this connection has been registered under section 3(I) (U) (VIII) of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and sections 499, 500 and 501 of IPC.

As the chit fund scam case is sub-judice, the Union Minister’s remark was unfair, Hansdah said, adding that Pradhan’s statement has defamed him.

Notably, the Supreme Court had in July, 2018 granted bail to the MP, who was arrested in connection with the chit fund scam.
