Talcher: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), the flagship company of Coal India Limited is running without a Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) for the last one year.
The company is managed without a fulltime CMD for a year after former CMD Anil Kumar Jha was promoted to Chairman Coal India LTD in May last year. Two posts of Directors are also lying vacant.
There are five regular directors in the company. They are director technical (operation), director technical (project and planning), director (personnel), director (finance) and CMD.
In last May CMD Jha left the company and LN Mishra – the director technical project and planning retired on December last year. So also JP Singh – the director for technical operation who retired on February this year.
These two vital posts remained vacant for months together without any posting. An important company like MCL which is the second largest company of CIL and set the target to produce 162 million tons of coal in this fiscal, has no fulltime director planning, director technical operation and the CMD.
The CMD of western coalfield limited Limited RR Mishra is additionally officiating as the CMD of MCL. Only two Directors OP Singh and KR Basudevan are functioning with additional charges of DT (o) and DP.
Absence of a fulltime CMD and two Directors in MCL has affected the work of the company very badly. Coal production, rehabilitation and resettlement issues are taking a backseat due to vacancy of these posts.
The company was way behind the target in last fiscal by producing 144 million tonne and in order to attend the current year target fulltime Directors are very necessary, coal experts said.
MCL comprising of coalfields in Odisha feeds coal to power stations in more than ten states of the country.
Describing the issue as a setback for the company the General Secretary of Indian Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Souvagya Chandra Pradhan demanded immediate posting of three directors the CMD in the company.
