Bhubaneswar: Mettle Meet has to probably wait another year to see more girls in the finals. But it is not all that bad.
Ronisha Das of College of Engineering and Technology (CET), Bhubaneswar is the lone female finalist of this edition. An avid quizzer, she’s quite used to being in this position by now. “It is wonderful to be the only female finalist of Mettle Meet 2019. Even during my school days I was often the only female quizzer,” says Das.
Ronisha has been participating in quiz competitions since she was in ninth standard. She remembered facing problems as not a lot of girls were encouraged to get into quizzing during her school days.
CET looks forward to defend the senior category title this year, after winning for two years in a row. And Ronisha might just be the X-factor in the team. “Ajay Poonia is really good with Business and India (topics), and I have a fairly good grasp on these two subjects. Tough competition, but we definitely hope to defend our title. We will come well prepared,” says a confident Das.
That’s not all, she has also got some experience under her belt. The engineering student also participated in Mettle Meet 2017, but had not made it to the finals. “We had two teams from our college back then. While the other team made it to the finals, the team I was in missed it,” recalls Das.
This year’s edition saw more female participants in the senior category than junior.
