Meet 22 year old Simi Karan, the youngest to clear the UPSC exams from Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Civil Service Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is one of the most challenging competitive tests in the country and cracking it is not an easy task.

Many candidates spend years preparing to clear it. However, there are also those who crack the test at a young age and go on to become Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers proving that experience is not a yardstick to achieve any height of success.

Simi Kiran a resident of Odisha’s Balasore district is one of those young who has solved the complex civil service riddle at the young age of 22.

Daughter of a Bhilai Steel Plant officer, Simi cleared the UPSC civil services exam 2019 with an all-India rank of 31. At the time of clearing the test, Simi was 22 years old, thus becoming the youngest girl from the state to clear the exams.

Simi completed her schooling from DPS. Later, she pursued her engineering from IIT Mumbai and completed it in 2019 after which she took a shot at the UPSC exams cleared it in her very first attempt.

“While preparing for the Civil Services Exam, it is immaterial how long you are studying. But the quality of study matters the most. If someone makes quality preparation for five hours daily, it will be equivalent to a 10-12 hour preparation,” Simi added.

She was encouraged by her parents to appear for the civil service examination.

Simi said that after becoming an IAS officer she will focus on issues like women empowerment and child marriage..

The young girl credited her parents, teachers and friends for her success.
